Dues and Uniform Assessments
Forcible association with an organization should not be a requirement to hold a job in a certain industry. While as a right to work state, Florida has many protections for employees who don’t wish to belong to a certain group or union to hold a job there are still further protections that could further enhance those safeguards. HB 1 would require a public employee who desires to join an employee organization sign a membership authorization form, indicating affirmative consent and providing as authorization before any dues can be docked from a paycheck. While HB 1 advanced through the House, it’s counterpart did not pass the Senate.
