Home-Based Businesses 537

Local municipalities and counties are granted broad authority on deciding what businesses can be allowed to operate from a home. The bill provides that local governments may regulate or require a license a home-based business in a manner that is different from other businesses in a local government’s jurisdiction, allowing more people the ability to work without requiring a costly rental of store space. Neither bill managed to pass through the committee process.

Fireworks 65

While the use personal use of fireworks is often used to celebrate special holidays, it’s not often expressly legal and requires having law enforcement turn a blind eye. This can create a situation where even though the use of fireworks is customary enforcement is arbitrary and can cause problems for certain people who are just joining in on the celebration. This legislation would make personal firework usage legal on Independence Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. SB 140 was passed through both chambers and signed into law by the Governor.
