Automated Pharmacies 708

While technology as a whole has continued to advance at a rapid pace, our ability to utilize new ways to work is often held up over red tape and regulations. This legislation seeks to cut through some of that red tape by allowing the use of video kiosks that would link customers directly to a licensed pharmacist to take their prescription order and then dispense it through the machine, cutting down on waiting times for medications. HB 59 advanced through the House and Senate and was sent to the Governor to be signed.

Dispensing Medicinel Drugs 100

Currently, a physician may dispense up to a 24-hour supply of a medicinal drug to a patient the physician is treating in an emergency department of a hospital. If the patient needs more than a 24-hour supply of a drug, the physician must provide the patient with a prescription for use after the initial 24-hour period. These bills would expand this authorization to allow all prescribers, not just physicians, to prescribe medicinal drugs upon release. While HB 57 and SB 100 managed to move through the committee process, they were unable to pass their respective chambers.
